Listen to Obituary

Lola Mae Clemons entered this world September 28,1940 to Rufus and Rosie McDowell.

Lola McDowell graduated from McFarland High in 1959.

On December 29, 1961, Lola Mae McDowell married Billy Ray Clemons & remained faithfully married until his death in 2011.

Together they raised two amazing children, Alethea, and Kelvin Clemons with a spirit of compassion.

Born into a family that valued faith, perseverance, and love, she carried those values throughout her journey in life.

Lola earned her LVN at Mineola General Hospital in 1970, a milestone that marked the beginning of her lifelong dedication to nursing. Her career was not just a profession but a calling—she cared for patients with tenderness, skill, and an unwavering commitment to their well-being.

Her colleagues admired her diligence, and her patients remembered her gentle presence. These attributes earned her the position of Director of Nurses as well as an instructor and teacher of new nurses, preparing them for their State Licensing Board.

After the closure of Mineola General Hospital, Lola worked at Hillview Nursing Home where she worked in the medical and surgical clinic until her health failed.

Beyond her work, Lola was a woman of warmth and joy. She was known for her tender smile, her gift for conversation, and her positive attitude that uplifted everyone around her.

Lola loved spending time with her sister Teddy sitting under Teddy’s carport talking and waving at every car that drove past from midday until dust.

Preceding her in death are her parents Rufus and Rosie McDowell, husband Billy Ray Clemons, son Kelvin Clemons, sibling Faye, Teddy, Wanda, Ernestine, and Della.

She leaves behind her daughter Alethea (husband Perry) Clemons-Session, grandchildren, Kendall, Tiffany, and Jaleesa, nine-great-great grandchildren, and one-great-great-great grandson, along with a host of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

To all who knew her, she was more than a nurse, more than a friend, she was a source of strength, encouragement, and love. Her legacy is one of service, kindness, and faith, and it will continue to inspire generations to come.
