His Life Story

Edward Lloyd Dickey 88 was born November 24, 1933, departed life’s journey October 12, 2022. He was the son of Rosie Mae Butler Tuck and Dr. Lloyd V. Dickey and affectionately known as “Bootie” by family and friends. He united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Mineola,Texas at an early age, where he attended his growing up years.

​He attended Richmond Elementary, Richmond, CA.,Mineola’s South Ward’s Colored High School receiving his diploma in 1951. He enrolled in Tyler District College (TJC) at Texas College. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served until 1957. September of 1957 he returned to Texas College, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education. With a Master of Education from Texas Southern University Houston, Texas in 1962 he continued his career in education by teaching and facilitating in the Dallas Independent School District for 34 years, receiving many accolades for services rendered.

​At Texas College he met and married Shirley Adams, the love of his life in 1960. To this union one daughter Bonita LaShun was born.

​After retiring from DISD in 1964 we returned to Lindale, Texas. Work continued in retirement through civic and community involvement service: Lindale Pride and Progress Community origination; Lindale Band & AthleticParents Supporter and chaperone. Organizer of the 1st all school reunion of Mineola Black Schools, started the 1stmonthly feeding program for senior citizen at St. Paul MBC; a founder member of Board of Director Addie E. McFarlandFoundation; Trustee and Chair of Finances at St. Paul MBC.

​He was preceded in death by his mother and step father Rosa Mae & Harvey Tuck Sr., father Dr. Lloyd Dickey; brothers: Harvey Tuck Jr., Ohi Dickey Lloyd V. Dickey Jr.Edward leaves to cherish his memory wife of 62 years, Shirley Adams Dickey, daughter Bonita LaShun Grace, granddaughter Meoshi Massington, grandson Nickolis A. Grace, great grandson Kaleb Mba, step mother Majoria L. Dickey brothers Billy E. Tuck, Kenneth Tuck (Pat), Dr. Leonel V. Dickey, Dr. Jan Dickey , LoAmmi Dickey, sisters: Vicky L. Stoneham, Dr. Lehi V. Dickey, Gabrielle Chanel, El, and Gishloma V. Dickey El, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and my special friends and brother-in-law Willie Dixon. Selected son, Eddie Palmer and daughter, Linda Smith.
