Lydia Sampson

Lydia Mae Henry-Sampson, age 76, was granted her angel wings on January 22, 2021, at her home, Mineola. TX. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Lydia had touched in some small way,

Lydia was born March 20, 1944 to Beulah Conger Henry and Prof. James M. Henry in Hawkins, Texas.

She attended Hawkins Elementary School in Hawkins, TX, after her parents moved to Mineola, TX. She attended McFarland Elementary School under the leadership of her father Principal Henry, graduating from McFarland High School in 1963. Her extra circumlunar activities; singing in the school “Concert" chorus with her melodious, high Pitched soprano, One-In-A-Million Voice.

She joined and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until ill health. She served as a deaconess, participated in Junior, Senior and Mass Choir. She traveled regularly with the choir to various church events. Also, she was one of the original members of the Charities Singers, of Mineola.

Her employment included working at Buddy Schoellkopf Products, Inc, Mineola and Tyler, TX., Trinidad Benham Corporation and was a professional dietitian at Wood Memorial Nursing Home at Heritage Nursing Home where she retired.

She married Marvin Howard Sampson, November 15, 1975 with 45 years of marriage until his passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, most recently, Marvin Sampson Husband, Manuel Sampson stepson, 4 brothers: James M. Henry, Charles E. Henry, Harry L. Henry, Holt Wright Jr. 2 sisters: Mary Radford and Annie Ruth Wright-Daniels.

She is survived by her three very loving daughters, Carlotta Henry-Mays and (Keith) Terrell, TX., Rebecca Henry, Mineola, TX., and Donna Henry (Norman) Terrell, TX., loving grandsons: Warren K. Mays, Mineola, and Cameron L. Caraway, Terrell, TX, two-step daughters, Cassandra Sampson, Mineola, TX, and Raquel Perry, Dallas. TX, stepson Cedric Sampson, Mineola, TX., one sister: Christine Harris, Tyler, TX and two brothers Herbert Wright (Marilyn), Tulsa, Oklahoma., and Earnest Gillard, Dallas, TX., two sisters-in-law: Ida Marie Henry, Mineola, TX., and Judy Kay Henry, Dallas, TX., and host of nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great nephews and nieces, Janae Holland, special daughter, Mineola, TX including special friends, neighbors, and church members.
